Average traffic per smartphone user will increase from 19 GB to 40 GB in the next five years, Swedish telecom giant Ericsson reports
New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) | There will be around 330 million 5G smartphone subscriptions in India in the next five years, representing about 26 per cent of mobile subscriptions in the country. This has been claimed in a report on Wednesday. Globally, 5G mobile subscriptions will exceed 58 million by the end of 2021, powered by an estimated 1 million new 5G mobile subscriptions every day, according to a report by Swedish telecom giant Ericsson.
Average traffic per smartphone user in India has increased from 13 GB per month in 2019 to 14.6 GB per month in 2020. According to the Ericsson Mobility Report, the average traffic per smartphone in the India region ranks second globally and is projected to grow to around 40 GB per month in 2026. Nitin Bansal, Head, Ericsson India, said in a statement, COVID-19 has accelerated India’s digital transformation, as more and more consumers rely on digital services, whether it is digital to meet their business or personal needs. Be it payment, remote health consultation, online retail or video conferencing.
Bansal, Head of Network Solutions for South East Asia, Oceania and India, Ericsson, said the average traffic per smartphone in the India region ranks second globally and is projected to grow to around 40 GB per month in 2026. 5G subscriptions with 5G-enabled devices grew by 70 million during the first quarter of 2021. Around 3.5 billion 5G subscriptions and 60 percent 5G population coverage are projected by the end of 2026.
