India has the largest number of cricket stadiums in the world. Many types of pitches can be seen at different places in India. Meanwhile, a hybrid pitch has been installed in a stadium in India. There are many special things about this pitch. Hybrid pitch has many advantages of its own. This pitch has been installed in India’s most beautiful ground, HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala. Dharamshala has become the first stadium to get this pitch. In such a situation, let us give you some information about this special pitch.
Features of hybrid pitch
India’s first hybrid pitch was inaugurated in a grand ceremony at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on Monday. The event was attended by cricketing personalities like IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal and former England cricketer and SIS International Cricket Director Paul Taylor. Hybrid pitches made from natural turf and artificial fibers are more durable. This puts less pressure on the groundsmen in preparing the pitch and also does not pose much of a problem in maintaining the standard of playing conditions. The pitch contains only five percent artificial fibre, ensuring that the natural characteristics required for cricket are preserved.
What did Dhumal say about the pitch?
Regarding this pitch installed in Dharamshala, Dhumal said that after the success in big venues like Lord’s and The Oval in England, the use of hybrid pitches will bring a change in Indian cricket. Taylor thanked HPCA for partnering in this prestigious project. An essential part of installing a hybrid pitch is the Universal Machine, which was developed by SISGrass in 2017 and has played a key role in creating similar pitches at county cricket grounds in England. The ICC has approved the use of hybrid pitches in T20 and ODI matches and plans to use them in the four-day County Championship from this year.
