In today’s time, some shocking news comes out every day. At this time a funny news has come out from Haryana. A retired army officer has now gone and repaid his 68-year-old loan. This is the story of BS Uppal, a retired naval commander from Hisar and a confectioner.
According to the information, 85-year-old BS Uppal, who has been living in America for the last several years, could never come to India or Hisar after retirement after he went to his son. Recently, when he returned to Hisar, after reaching here, he first went to the ‘Delhi Wala Confectionery’ shop located in Moti Bazar, Hisar. This anecdote is from the time when this shop was handled by Shambhu Dayal Bansal, the grandfather of the present owner Vinay Bansal. He started this shop himself. At that time BS Uppal used to study in school and often used to eat Dahi-Peda from this shop. On reaching the shop, he told Vinay that in 1954 he had borrowed Rs 28 from his grandfather Shambhu Dayal Bansal. He used to drink from his shop by adding pedas to the lassi, for which 28 rupees were left on him, but at that time he had to go out of town and then he was recruited in the Navy. He never got a chance to come to Hisar during his service in the army and after retirement he went to America with his son.
Let us tell you that when News18 talked to BS Uppal about this, he always remembered these things. Even in America, he remembered only two things of Hisar. One was a loan of Rs 28 and the other was his Harjiram Hindu High School, from where he had passed 10th standard. With this, he said that after 68 years, he has returned to Hisar especially to see his school and repay his loan. While repaying his loan, BS placed an amount of ten thousand in Vinay Bansal’s hand. At first Vinay refused to take it, but after being told several times by BS, Vinay accepted the money. This moment was very emotional for both BS Uppal and Vinay Bansal. After this BS Uppal went to see his school, but now this school is closed, so he had to return disappointed.
Let us tell you that BS Uppal played a special role in the Indo-Pak war. Actually Uppal was the commander of the submarine that sank a Pakistani ship during the Indo-Pak war. After this he had brought his submarine and nine soldiers safely. For this bravery, the Indian Army honored him with the Naval Award for Bravery.
