What is the government’s planning
Currently, the 233 km journey on this highway is under the open sky, where there is a desert on one side and the sea on the other. The Gujarat government has decided to plant 40 thousand trees on both sides of the highway for the convenience of tourists. This project will be completed on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Trees will be planted every 10 meters
Gujarat Minister Rishikesh Patel said that a private company will be given the contract to plant trees. Under the Green Forest Path Scheme, 6 to 8 feet tall plants will be planted on this highway and the responsibility of their maintenance will also be of this company. These trees will be planted at a distance of 10 meters on both sides of the highway. After this, there will be greenery on the sides of the coastal highway and those traveling on it will be able to enjoy Marine Drive in the shade.
Each tree costs 3 thousand rupees
Under the MoU signed by the Gujarat government, the cost of each tree planted on both sides of the highway will be Rs 3,000. This also includes the cost of maintenance of the trees for the next 3 years. Half of this cost will be borne by the government and half by the private company. Let us tell you that under the Green Forest Path Scheme, the Gujarat government is preparing to plant 70 thousand trees.
