Delhi Airport: As soon as Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-686 landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, Air Customs Preventive officers became very alert. Customs officers were keeping a close watch on the passengers of this flight from Addis Ababa. Meanwhile, the customs officers’ attention fell on a passenger who had come from this flight. This passenger’s body was drenched with sweat and his face was pale.
After seeing this passenger, the customs officers were completely convinced that there was something wrong with him. The customs officers first waited for the passenger to pass through the green channel, after which the customs officers asked him if he had anything that should have been declared. In response to which the passenger voluntarily admitted that he had consumed banned drugs. After which, the passenger was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital.
According to a senior customs official, the passenger admitted to Safdarjung hostel has been identified as Simon Alfred Ngong. He is originally a citizen of the Republic of Cameroon. He said that after a seven-day long search operation at Safdarjung Hospital, about 73 capsules were recovered from the stomach of this person, which were filled with white powder, weighing about 1096 grams. Investigation revealed that the white powder filled in the capsules was cocaine.
According to a senior customs official, the value of the cocaine recovered from the accused passenger is estimated to be around Rs 10.90 crore. Customs has seized the cocaine and arrested Simon Alfred Ngong under section 43 (A) of the NDPS Act, 1985. The investigation in the case is still going on.
