Well-known Economist N K Singh has said that the world is moving towards the threshold of the Indian era. In fact, the economic growth rate is moving in the direction of the target of India to become a developed nation by 2047. Singh, the president of the Institute of Economic Growth, said this in his address on being awarded the prestigious honorary fellowship at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) on Wednesday evening. He said that he is proud to join the ranks of Indians like Nobel Prize winner Professor Amartya Sen and former President K R Narayanan.
India is an economy with high economic growth
The university said the honour recognises Singh’s long association with the London School of Economics and Political Science and his efforts to enhance the unique relationship as co-chair of LSE’s India Advisory Board. In his address, 83-year-old Singh spoke of the country’s glorious history. He said as India moves towards its 100th anniversary of independence, the country remains a high-growth economy.
India will become a developed country by 2047
He said, “This is the third term of the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi). He and all members of the Council of Ministers are fully committed to a developed India by 2047… For the next two decades, India needs to maintain this kind of growth. India’s growth story also shows that democracy and development are not inimical to each other.” Singh, co-convener of the high-level expert group on reforms in multilateral development banks set up by the G-20, has called for a “better, bolder and bigger” approach to these institutions that will address serious concerns related to the climate crisis. Larry Kramer, Vice-Chancellor of the London School of Economics, said, “This is the first honorary fellowship I have had the privilege of conferring during my tenure as LSE President. I am particularly thrilled to confer it on our friend N K Singh.”
