Talking to news agency ANI, Rakesh Mishra, Director, Tata Institute for Genetics and Society (TIGS), said, “The new sub-variant XE of Corona first appeared in mid-January. But I believe that for this We don’t need to panic. So far only 600 cases have been reported worldwide, but we need to keep a close watch on it.”
According to the latest report by the World Health Organization (WHO), the XE sub-variant is more infectious than all the others reported so far. In such a situation, WHO has warned the world to be alert.
Rakesh Mishra further says that there is no indication that it can cause a wave of corona. He said, “There is no indication at this time that this new variant is strong enough to cause a ripple. We will have to wait some more time to comment on what will be the consequences of it becoming contagious?
Dr Mishra also emphasized that it is important to take all safety measures to contain the spread of the virus. “It is unfortunate that a certain section of the society is eager to announce that the pandemic is over. People are encouraged to use masks, get vaccinated as per norms and apply boosters wherever permitted, and over-crowd. Unnecessary clustering in locations should be avoided.
