The raid by the Economic Offenses of Vinod Kumar Rai, Superintending Engineer of Rural Works Department in Patna, Bihar, presented a great corruption and greed for money, causing a stir in the entire city. The incident took place on August 21, when EOU received information that Vinod Kumar Rai had hidden a large amount of money in his white Innova car, which he had collected illegally. After this information, the police and EOU team together started the investigation and decided to search the house of Vinod Kumar Rai.
During the search, the most shocking thing that came to light was that when Rai understood that the police were about to seize his property, he started burning a large amount kept in his house. It was proved that despite being involved in corruption, he feared that if the money and documents were correctly handed over, his entire network could be revealed. The EOU team found the remains of notes burnt in the house, which were trapped in pipes and jammed in the toilet drains of the house. When the drains were opened, there was a pile of burnt notes and documents.
Meanwhile, EOUs found hiding money in the water tank of the house. A currency of 500 rupees of about 39 lakh 50 thousand rupees was recovered from there. Thus, in total, an amount of about 52 lakh rupees and the remains of burnt notes were recovered. This entire situation indicates how much Vinod Kumar Rai had planned to hide his illegal property.
Apart from this, gold-silver jewelery worth Rs 26 lakh, insurance policy papers, property documents and an Innova Crysta vehicle were also recovered in the raid. EOU officials are now evaluating these documents and are also investigating from which source Rai earned these properties.
After this complete action, Vinod Kumar Rai has been arrested. Apart from this, investigation is also being done against his wife Babli Rai, as he prevented the team of the Economic Offenses Unit from entering the house and obstructed the investigation. Legal action is also being taken against Babli Rai.
