Wheat production in Pakistan is estimated to be less by around 3 million tonnes this year. In such a situation, there is a possibility of a sharp increase in the price of wheat. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that he will not allow flour to become expensive under any circumstances. Even if you have to sell your clothes for this. Addressing a public meeting of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) in Bisham tehsil of Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sharif also pledged to reduce the prices of flour in the province.
Sharif declared that he knew very well how to bring down the prices of flour in the province. He directed the provincial government to reduce the prices of flour at its own expense. According to the report, the country’s Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said on Saturday that the production of wheat is estimated to be 26.173 million tonnes against the target of 28.89 million tonnes, while the estimated consumption will be around 30.79 million tonnes.
Wheat yield decreased due to these reasons
The reason for this shortfall is the lack of land, water, fertilizers and delay in declaration of support price for wheat cultivation. Along with this, the increase in oil prices and the running of heatwave earlier than normal is also the reason for this. Due to these reasons, there has been a decrease of 2 percent in production. The Russo-Ukraine war has also created a severe shortage of wheat in Pakistan.
‘Imran did not work for the citizens’
PM Sharif criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government led by Imran Khan. Instead of working on a plan to provide fundamental rights to citizens, certificates were distributed to anti-nationals and loyalists, he said. The PTI government had received the most loans in history, but did not invest anything in development and public welfare projects. He said that the national economy was destroyed due to not taking timely decisions for the purchase of oil and gas.
