The American newspaper ‘The Washington Post’ has accused India’s intelligence agency RAW in the failed conspiracy to murder Khalistani terrorist and American-Canadian citizen Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. Responding to this, India has slammed America. India said the report made unfair and baseless allegations on a serious issue.
“The allegations are unfair and baseless”
The newspaper, quoting unnamed sources, has named a RAW officer in connection with the alleged conspiracy to murder Pannu. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “The report makes unwarranted and baseless allegations in a serious matter.” He said, “The Government of India has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the security concerns shared by the US Government on the networks of organized criminals, terrorists and others, the investigation of which is ongoing.” Responding to media queries on this news of Washington Post, Jaiswal said, “There is no need for imaginary and irresponsible comments on this.”
Pannu has dual citizenship
In November last year, US federal prosecutors had accused Indian national Nikhil Gupta of collaborating with an Indian government official in a foiled plot to assassinate Sikh separatist Pannu in the US. Pannu, who is wanted in India on terrorism charges, has dual citizenship of the US and Canada. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had said in Parliament on December 7 that India has constituted an investigation committee to investigate the information received from America in this matter, because the country’s national interests are also linked to this matter.
