Ghaziabad. A couple burnt to death on Monday afternoon after a fire broke out due to short circuit in an under-construction three-storey house in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. A firefighter who reached the spot said that the fire started from the ground floor, due to which the firecrackers kept in the house exploded. Due to the explosion in firecrackers, the owner of the house Irfan (57) and his wife Samar Jahan (55) were seriously burnt.
The local police, with the help of relatives, broke the door and took out the burnt couple. Both were taken to the nearest hospital, where they died. Additional Police Commissioner (Shalimar Garden) Siddharth Gautam said that the firecrackers were bought by the family members for a wedding, which was scheduled to take place in the coming week. He told that the family members have shown the receipt of firecrackers and the wedding card.
Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal told news agency PTI that the cause of the fire is being investigated. Irfan used to do firecracker shows in weddings. Pal said, he might be storing firecrackers inside his house, this possibility cannot be ruled out.
It is noteworthy that in a similar incident last month, four people of the same family had died in Geeta Colony. Apart from the couple, their two children were also among those who died. In this incident, 11 people were badly burnt. According to the police, the fire broke out due to short circuit in the 4-storey building.
