New Delhi, There will be no sloganeering during oath taking in Parliament. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has made new rules regarding this. Now no MP will be able to say anything other than the oath format. No one will be able to make any other comment or sloganeering. The Speaker will retain the right to take action if anyone speaks differently. For this, the Speaker has amended Rule 389.
Recently, during the oath taking ceremony, many types of slogans were seen in the Lok Sabha. Religious slogans were raised and comments were also made about many great men. Statements were also made against many leaders. The Speaker had expressed strong displeasure over this. At that time, he had indicated that strict steps would be taken to stop such statements.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that Speaker Om Birla has added a new section in ‘Instruction-1’ in the ‘Speaker’s Instructions’ to regulate certain matters related to the functioning of the House, which was not part of the rules. The new section-three says that a member will take and subscribe an oath or affirmation and “shall not use any word or expression as a prefix or suffix or make any comment as an oath.”
