The Department of Telecommunications, Home Ministry and State Police will work together to deal with cyber fraudsters. The Department of Telecommunications has issued instructions to block 28,200 mobile handsets and re-verify 20 lakh mobile connections related to them. The aim of this initiative is to dismantle the network of fraudsters and protect citizens from digital threats.
An analysis by the Home Ministry and the state police revealed that 28,200 mobile handsets were misused in cyber crimes. DoT further analyzed and found that 20 lakh numbers were used with these mobile handsets. These figures were astonishing. After a meeting with the Home Ministry and PUL, the Department of Telecommunications directed telecom service providers across the country to block 28,200 mobile handsets and immediately re-verify 20 lakh mobile connections linked to these mobile handsets if they fail to verify and re-verify. Instructions issued to disconnect the connection.
Efforts continue for safe environment
Police say these efforts are being made to ensure a safe digital environment while also protecting public safety and the integrity of telecommunications infrastructure. The combined efforts of the three departments reflect their commitment. With the increasing use of technology, incidents of cyber fraud have also increased. Now with the help of Artificial Intelligence, it is claimed that children have been kidnapped by making fake voices and money is looted from their parents. Apart from this, many types of frauds are being done. Police have taken action to deal with them.
