Mallikarjun Kharge
New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government over the bureaucratic reshuffle of the National Examination Agency (NTA) following alleged irregularities in medical entrance exam NEET-UG, saying the top leadership of the government should take the responsibility instead of passing the buck to others. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the National Examination Agency (NTA) was described as an autonomous body but in reality it was created to serve the “nefarious interests” of the Bharatiya Janata Party/Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. “The top leadership of the Modi government should take responsibility for the NEET scam. Reshuffling the bureaucracy is not the solution to the problem of the education system ruined by the BJP,” he said in a post in ‘X’.
He said that the Modi government should be held accountable for providing justice to the students. The central government on Saturday removed NTA Director General Subodh Singh and handed over the investigation into irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Education Ministry has also postponed the NEET-PG exam, which is the fourth competitive exam to be postponed in recent times. Kharge said that the NEET-PG exam has been postponed and all the four exams have been either cancelled or postponed in the last 10 days.
He alleged, “Paper leak, corruption, irregularities and education mafia have entered our education system.” Kharge said, “This belated exercise will not yield any result as countless youth are suffering from it.” Criticizing the postponement of NEET-PG exam, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “helpless” in front of the paper leak gang and “education mafia”. Rahul wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “Now NEET-PG is also postponed! This is another unfortunate example of the ruined education system under Narendra Modi’s rule. In BJP rule, students are forced to ‘fight’ with the government to save their future, not ‘study’ to make their career. Now it is clear – Modi, who silently watched the spectacle every time, is completely helpless in front of the paper leak gang and education mafia.”
He said, “The incompetent government of Narendra Modi is the biggest threat to the future of students – we must save the country’s future from it.” Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also targeted the Modi government over alleged irregularities in national competitive exams including NEET-UG, alleging that it has handed over the entire education system to “mafia” and “corrupts”. In a post on ‘X’, she said that the NEET-UG question paper was “leaked” while NEET-PG, UGC-NET and CSIR-NET exams were “cancelled”. Earlier, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “Not a day passes without news of cancellation of any exam due to the incompetence of the non-biological Prime Minister and those around him.”
