TRAI has issued strict orders for telecom companies Airtel, Jio, BSNL, Vi. Telecom operators have been asked to enhance their mobile apps and web portals so that users can easily register complaints of Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC). This order of the telecom regulator has been issued to curb fake calls and SMS coming to users. The government had recently issued new guidelines to mobile service providers to curb fake calls and spam.

This order of the telecom regulator will benefit crores of mobile users of the country. Users will not have trouble reporting fake calls or messages coming on their mobile. The regulator asked telecom operators to make access to UCC complaint registration and preference management easy for users. Users can easily access it from the app or website of telecom operators. The telecom regulator said that the information required by the users to report the complaint will be automatically visible, if the user has given call log and other necessary permissions to the app. The regulator has asked telecom companies to submit their Performance Monitoring Report Format (PMR) every month.
A few days ago, TRAI has released a new number series of 160 for banking and insurance sectors etc., so that users can know which number is fake. The calls coming from the new number series will be genuine. Apart from this, calls coming from any other number will be fake and users should flag those calls through the UCC complaint registration portal. Not only this, the Department of Telecommunications has made many more preparations to curb fake calls and SMS.
