National Cadet Corps Director General (DG NCC) Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh has visited Agartala, Tripura to review the activities of the world’s largest uniformed youth organization.
He was briefed by Major General Bhaskar Kalita and the group commanders about the activities to be carried out by the cadets of all the states of this North Eastern region.
DG NCC interacted with Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath in Tripura government and state government officials and discussed many issues including creation of dedicated infrastructure for NCC, border area expansion plan, NCC as an optional subject in colleges. Issues like initiation and the need for holistic promotion of NCC activities in the state of Tripura were included. NCC has about 6,000 cadets in 95 schools and colleges in eight districts of this state, of which about 2,500 are girl cadets.
DG NCC appreciated the efforts of the units here and presented awards to the deserving cadets, trainers and civilian staff of NCC units in Tripura.
Significantly, the National Policy on Education (NEP) provides that state governments, under the aegis of the Ministry of Defence, may encourage the opening of NCC wings in their secondary and higher secondary schools located in tribal-dominated areas.
Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi said that the Central Board of Secondary Education offers NCC as an elective subject in classes IX-XII in schools that offer NCC and it is managed by the Directorate of NCC under the Ministry of Defence. Is.
NCC training is also implemented in Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti as per the provisions and policy issued by Director General, NCC, Ministry of Defence.
