Mumbai. The management of a prestigious school in Mumbai has reportedly asked its principal to resign for liking social media posts on the issue of Palestine and the ongoing Hamas-Israel conflict. His colleague gave this information on Thursday. The aide of Parveen Shaikh, principal of Somaiya School in Vidyavihar area, said that on April 26, she was called by the school management for a formal meeting. The principal was reportedly asked to resign over his comments and likes on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on the Hamas-Israel conflict and other issues.
An associate of the principal said that in the meeting the school management said that these comments were not liked and accepted by them. He was asked to resign over this issue. However he refused to resign. According to his colleague, the management clearly said that he would have to leave his post. When Parveen Shaikh was contacted, she refused to comment on the issue. The issue came to light when a web portal published a report. In which the principal’s comments and likes were highlighted on his X handle. Who were considered pro-Palestine and sympathetic towards Hamas.
An aide to Principal Parveen Sheikh said that Sheikh’s work has been excellent and the management should take into account the fact that the school had received many awards including academic excellence under his leadership. Shaikh has been associated with the school for the last 12 years and took over as principal seven years ago. A spokesperson for the school management said the matter was still being investigated. As soon as they get an update, they will share it.
