Parashar said that along with the Indian ship, 24 other ships are also stranded at the port. The agency is closely monitoring the entire development. The crew has not flown out since the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out last month. A strict vigil is being kept on the ship. There are many Indians in the crew of other ships as well. The ship’s satellite communication system and internet are working.

Parashar said the agency had to evacuate the crew in case of emergency, so the nearest Polish port is 900 km. One will also have to travel 500 km to reach the safe haven Kyiv port. At present it is not possible to reach both these places. Therefore, it is considered safer to stay on the ship than to hide in a bunker somewhere in Ukraine.
Parashar said that the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Embassy and Directorate General of Shipping have also been apprised of this development. Director General of Shipping Amitabh Kumar could not be reached for comment in this regard.
