New website of UGC
UGC Chairman Prof. M. Jagdish Kumar told that the home page of the new website will have a page for students and teachers. It will be easy to see schemes, admission, fees, notices, circulars related to higher education. It will be easy to find regulations related to students, teachers. Along with this, information about various bureaus of UGC and their officers will also be available through the website. UGC is now also focusing on digital education and many new initiatives have been taken. All their information can be found at one place. If students want to know about any university then detailed information can be found on the website. Rules related to admission process, fee criteria will all be found in one place.
New Portal for Professor of Practice Scheme
In the country’s universities and colleges, now engineers, doctors, businessmen and industry experts will also be able to become professors and teach students and the UGC had issued guidelines for this in September last year. Now UGC has prepared a special portal for the ‘Professor of Practice’ scheme, on which information about experts from different fields will be available. Experts will register on this portal through their e-mail ID and mobile phone. After registration, they will give necessary information including their education, experience, field area. Universities and colleges will also register on this portal and every university will give information about the posts to be released for Professor of Practice scheme. Universities will be able to see the details of experts on this portal and after that experts will be called and appointments will be made. UGC says that the post of Professor of Practice is a big plan for educational institutions to take advantage of the experience of experts in different fields. In this scheme, doctors, engineering, accounts, science-technology, commerce, media, literature, business, social science, fine arts, public service, armed forces, experts in legal profession and other fields can now be appointed as professors in the university. To become a professor in this category, the conditions which apply to teaching posts in colleges will not apply. The experience of the specialist will be seen in this category.
Help will be available from Utsah portal
UGC has also prepared a new portal Utsah (UTSAH- Undertaking Transformative Strategies and Actions in Higher Education). Under the National Education Policy, 10 main themes and 18 points are to be implemented for major changes in higher education and every higher education institution has to implement them. Whatever steps UGC is taking to implement these points, they will be monitored through this portal. This portal will help the university in promoting the Indian knowledge system including digital learning, industry-industry tie-up, academic research. Whatever new experiments the university is doing, its information will be available on this portal. The institutes will have to report to the UGC, which will be released on the portal.
