1. Criminal cases registered against 26% candidates: This time a total of 4442 candidates are contesting on 403 seats. Of these, 26% i.e. 1142 candidates are those who have criminal cases registered. Many of these candidates also face serious charges like murder, robbery, rape, assault, attempt to murder. This time the number of candidates with criminal background has increased by eight per cent as compared to 2017. In 2017, 18% of the contesting candidates were tainted, which has increased to 26% this time. The maximum number of cases are registered against Azam Khan and his family. A total of 87 cases are registered against Azam, 43 against his son Abdullah Azam and 35 against his wife Tajin Fatima. A total of 165 cases are registered against all three.
2. Number of rich candidates increased: This time a total of 1733 i.e. 39% candidates are crorepatis. 30% of the candidates were crorepatis in 2017. The richest man is Nawab Kazim Ali Khan, who is contesting from Rampur on a Congress ticket. Kazim has total assets of more than 296 crores. AIMIM candidate Shah Alam alias Guddu Jamali, who is contesting from Mubarakpur seat of Azamgarh, is at number two. Jamali has a wealth of more than 195 crores. Samajwadi Party candidate Supriya Aron is at number three from Bareilly Cantt. Supriya has total assets of Rs 157 crore.
3. More against Yogi, less candidates against Akhilesh: This time Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is contesting from Gorakhpur Urban seat. A total of 13 candidates have entered the electoral fray for Yogi’s seat. At the same time, there are three candidates in the seat of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh, who is contesting from Karhal seat of Mainpuri. Apart from Akhilesh, Union Minister Prof. SPS Baghel and BSP’s Kuldeep Narayan are involved.
4. 301 MLAs are contesting again: Out of 403 MLAs who won the 2017 assembly elections, 301 are in the fray again this time. Out of these, the assets of 284 MLAs have increased from 0 to 22057% in these five years, while the wealth of 17 MLAs has decreased from -1 to -36%. The wealth of Aditi Singh, who won from Rae Bareli on the highest Congress ticket, has increased by 22057%. Aditi had assets of only Rs 13.98 lakh in 2017, which has increased to Rs 30.84 crore in five years. At the same time, BJP MLA and candidate Lakhan Singh Rajput from Dibiyapur has seen the biggest decline in assets. In 2017, his net worth was Rs 1.42 crore, which has now come down to Rs 91.76 lakh. His net worth has decreased by 36%.
5. Congress gave the most, BSP gave the least number of tickets to women: Although the number of women in voters is almost equal to that of men, but the number of women in ticket distribution is very less. This time out of total 4442 candidates, only 560 are women, rest are male candidates. Congress has given tickets to 39% women the most. The BJP and the Samajwadi Party have given tickets to 12-12%, while the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Aam Aadmi Party have given tickets to nine per cent women.
6. Movin Oldest Candidate: Movin Ahmed, an independent candidate from Mau seat, is the oldest candidate of Uttar Pradesh. His age is 92 years. At the same time, the youngest 35 candidates are in the fray. These candidates have given their age as 25 years. This time there are 1346 candidates in the election, whose age is between 41 and 50 years. The age of 1582 candidates is between 25 to 40 years. There are also four such candidates, whose age is between 81 and 92 years.
7. Most tainted candidates on five seats: Most of the tainted candidates are contesting in the five seats of UP. These include Lucknow Central, Chail, Bansdih, Akbarpur and Sewapuri seats. In all these seats, there are seven candidates who have criminal cases registered against them.
8. Debt of 30 crores, still in the electoral fray: National Parivartan Dal candidate Kunal Singh is the most indebted candidate from Sahaswan seat of Badaun. Kunal has a total debt of Rs 30.12 crore.
9. Illiterate candidates also in fray: 54 candidates contesting elections are illiterate. 254 candidates have declared themselves to be only educated. 31 candidates have not shared any information related to their education. 946 candidates are graduates.
10. Most candidates on this seat of Prayagraj: Prayagraj’s Pratappur seat has maximum 25 candidates. On the second number, 21 candidates are in the fray in the Phaphamau seat of Prayagraj. 19 candidates contested from Sirathu seat of Kaushambi at number three. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has also contested from the same seat.
