The pace that the Yogi government has shown in preparing sports infrastructure as well as sports activities in the state has resulted in Uttar Pradesh emerging as a new destination for sports. Uttar Pradesh is getting the opportunity to host big events. In this sequence, on Tuesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Syed Modi National International Badminton Championship 2023. If we talk about this year, then competitions like Khelo India University Games, Asian Youth Handball Championship, Commonwealth Weightlifting, Davis Cup, Moto GP and Cricket World Cup have been organized here. A large number of players who have won medals at national and international level are getting opportunities in the services of the state government. Due to the increase in sports activities and sports infrastructure, the morale of the players of the state is also skyrocketing.
Getting priority for big sports competitions
The changes that the Yogi government has made in the sports infrastructure in the last six and a half years are beginning to have an impact. Not only the players of the state are getting its benefit but Uttar Pradesh is also getting priority for organizing various sports. This year itself, Uttar Pradesh organized Khelo India University Games, in which players from universities across the country participated and competitions were played in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Noida as well as in Delhi. Similarly, Davis Cup World Group 2 was organized in Lucknow, in which the match was played between India and Morocco. Recently, Uttar Pradesh attracted the whole world by successfully organizing Moto GP. Happy with this event, the organizers have expressed their intention to organize Moto GP in 2024 also. After Khelo India and Moto GP India, UP hosted the National Taekwondo Championship at the Indoor Stadium in Noida in October, in which more than 5 thousand athletes from across the country participated. Apart from this, Senior National Archery is currently being organized in Ayodhya, in which the top archers of the country are showcasing their talent in Ayodhya. Formula One H20 (F1H20) World Championship Powerboat Racing is also proposed to be organized in Varanasi next year.
Uttar Pradesh becomes leading state in terms of sports infrastructure
Excellent efforts have been started on sports infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, which has made the state a leading state in this matter. Talking about sports infrastructure, work has been done on building a playground in every Gram Panchayat, providing sports kits to Yuvak Mangal Dal and Mahila Mangal Dal in every Gram Panchayat, sports stadiums in all the districts and mini stadiums at the block level. Construction of open gym in the village has been given priority from the amount spent by the Gram Panchayat. The result of this is that the state has 83 stadiums, 12 synthetic tennis courts, 67 multi-purpose halls, 38 swimming pools, 15 synthetic hockey stadiums, 3 synthetic running tracks, 16 hostel buildings, 2 international cricket stadiums, 42 state-of-the-art gyms, 2 judo halls, 11 Wrestling halls, 6 shooting ranges, 2 indoor volleyball halls, 12 weightlifting halls and 15 synthetic basketball courts have been constructed so far. Yogi government is also increasing the construction of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in the name of Major Dhyan Chand in Meerut on a war footing, while the foundation stone of the new cricket stadium in Varanasi has also been laid recently by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Players are also being encouraged
On the instructions of CM Yogi, extensive work is also being done to encourage players in the state. To encourage various sports, Yogi government has kept 50 international players for training in residential sports hostels at an honorarium of Rs 1.50 lakh. Under this head, financial assistance is currently being provided to 142 players in the state from the Eklavya Sports Fund. Arrangements have also been made for direct recruitment on gazetted posts of medal winning players in the state’s international games (Olympics, World Cup, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games), in which Lalit Upadhyay (hockey) has been appointed as DSP, Vijay Kumar Yadav (Judo) as DSP. And appointment letters have been issued to Divya Kakran (wrestling) for the post of Naib Tehsildar. Till now, the state government has also made arrangements for 2 percent reservation for appointment to posts outside the purview of the Public Service Commission in government and public undertakings, through which 500 players have been adjusted in the services of the Uttar Pradesh government and especially in the Uttar Pradesh Police Force. Has been done The state government gives cash to medal winning players in all international competitions including Olympics and World Cup. Besides, the government also gives incentive amount to the players who participate in these competitions.
