You are preparing for the UPSC exam for yourself, this is your personal goal. Therefore, your boss or co-workers cannot have any special role in this. Some people are very lucky in terms of having a supportive boss. But it is not necessary that everyone gets such support.
Should the job be given low priority?
IFS Himanshu Tyagi says that many candidates start ignoring their job, which is wrong. Keep the place where you are currently working as your priority. Even if you are not able to become a top performer, try to be average or slightly above it. You will have to divide your time between job and UPSC exam preparation, give your extra effort. If you do not do this, your colleagues can criticize you.
Do only work related things in office
Consistency is very important while preparing for a government job. This means that do not put any break on your preparation. If you are getting time between office work, then instead of roaming around or gossiping, you can revise for a while. But try to keep your plans private. Talk only about work with the people in the office. Do not waste time in telling them how much preparation you have done or how and what you are studying.
