Washington: The US and British forces have strongly counterattacked the Yemeni Houthis who are continuously targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Many Houthi hideouts have been destroyed in US and UK airstrikes. The US and Britain took this action on Thursday in response to the recent increase in attacks by Houthi rebels on ships in the Red Sea. The forces of both countries attacked 13 bases of the Iran-backed rebel group in Yemen. Three US officials gave this information.
According to officials, US and British fighter jets and US ships targeted several underground hideouts, missile launch sites, sites occupied by Houthi rebels, a Houthi ship and other targets. The official gave information about this military operation on the condition of anonymity. The US also attacked eight unmanned aerial vehicles in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, which were considered a threat to the US and its allied forces.
Airstrike on Houthis for the 5th time since January
This is the fifth time since January 12 this year that US and British forces have carried out a joint operation against Houthi rebels. However, the US is carrying out almost daily attacks to destroy the rebel bases, including stopping missiles and drone attacks targeting ships. Houthi rebels have intensified attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden in recent months. The rebels are demanding Israel to end the war in Gaza, in which more than 36,000 Palestinians have been killed. (AP)
