13 US military personnel killed in double bomb blast, more than 150 injured
Kabul/New Delhi, Aug 27 (IANS) | US President Joe Biden vowed revenge on the attackers after the Kabul airport attack, saying he would “find them”. At least 90 people, mostly Afghan civilians, and 13 US military personnel have been killed and more than 150 injured in the horrific double bomb attacks on the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.
A Taliban official says at least 28 of the Afghans killed were Taliban members. A Western security official told a global news wire that civilian evacuations have now intensified following the attacks and planes are flying regularly. The US has warned there could be more strikes, with US commanders saying they are on alert for possible rocket or vehicle-borne bombs targeting the airport.
Responding to the explosion at the Kabul airport, Britain’s Conservative MP and foreign affairs committee chairman Tom Tugendhat has said that whenever Islamist extremists take power, terror increases. He said, “The attack on innocent people at Kabul airport shows what the Taliban regime has brought with it. The pattern is well established – from Nigeria and Mali to Syria and Iraq, whenever Islamic extremists take power, terror spreads. Goes.”
He said the Taliban regime has taken it to innocent people trying to escape the horrors of the Taliban regime. The Guardian reported that the prime suspect in the suicide bombing at Kabul airport is an affiliate of the Islamic State in Afghanistan known as the Islamic State Khorasan Province, ISIS-KP.
