Driver Vistara top officials held a meeting with pilots on Wednesday amid flights being canceled due to unavailability of crew. Issues related to new contracts and duties were discussed in this. Sources having knowledge of the matter said that the Tata Group airline canceled 26 flights on Wednesday. In protest against the revised salary structure, a section of pilots have taken leave for the last few days by reporting illness. This has created problems for Vistara and the airline has canceled more than 100 flights in the last two days.
Officials held a meeting with pilots
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked Vistara to provide daily information on flight cancellations as well as delays. Sources said top executives of Vistara, including Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vinod Kannan, held an online meeting with the pilots to discuss their problems. Officials from Human Resources (HR) and other departments participated in the meeting. Vistara has not issued any official statement on the meeting with the pilots.
Vistara’s merger process with Air India continues
Sources said flight operations are returning to normal and cases of flight cancellations have come down. Sources said that on issues related to increase in duty and working hours, airline officials have assured the pilots to resolve these by May. He claimed that the current situation is mainly due to pilots doing more duty. The process of merger of Vistara with Air India is going on. Vistara has around 1,000 pilots, of which around 200 are undergoing various stages of training. Vistara plans to operate more than 300 flights per day in the summer schedule that began on March 31.
