Congress MP K. Suresh is the candidate for the post of Speaker of Lok Sabha
Today, elections are to be held in Parliament for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. NDA has again nominated Om Birla as its candidate for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker, while India Alliance has nominated Congress MP K. Suresh as its candidate against him (Om Birla). Let us tell you that both the candidates have filed their nominations yesterday. Now India Block candidate Congress MP K. Suresh has spoken on this issue.
‘The government forced India Alliance’
Congress MP K. Suresh, India Bloc’s candidate for the Lok Sabha Speaker’s post, said, “The government forced the India Alliance to contest the election. We do not want to contest against the Speaker, but when the government approached the India Alliance, especially the Congress party leadership, we asked about the deputy speaker’s post. We were not given any assurance at that time. Even yesterday, they did not give any assurance till 11.30 am.
‘Our leaders decided to contest the presidential election’
He further said that first you support the election of the Speaker and after that we will discuss the Deputy Speaker. So, that answer was not satisfactory. So, our leaders decided to contest the Speaker’s election. This election is the firm stand of the NDA leadership. Otherwise, it could have been avoided. But, they are not ready to cooperate with the opposition, they are not ready to give the opposition party a chance for the Deputy Speaker post. So, this election is happening today, but the entire responsibility of this election lies with the NDA leadership.”
Elections usually don’t take place
For your information, let us tell you that usually there are no elections for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. Rather, they are elected by consensus of the ruling and opposition parties, but this time the government and the opposition are face to face for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker.
