Mumbai. Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray and Prithviraj Chavan held a joint press conference in Mumbai on Saturday and thanked the people of the country for supporting the alliance in the state in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. NCP (SCP)’s Sharad Pawar took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that wherever he held road shows and rallies, the MVA won those places in the Lok Sabha elections.
Sharad Pawar said, “Wherever the Prime Minister’s road show and rally took place, we won. So I consider it my duty to thank the Prime Minister… We thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating a favourable political environment for the MVA.” Maharashtra was one of the three states that gave the biggest blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the general elections, the first state to win when the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) broke away and joined the BJP in June 2022.
The BJP managed to win only nine of the 23 seats it contested in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. Election Commission data showed that the NDA failed to win most of the seats where PM Modi campaigned. PM Modi held several public meetings and road shows in 18 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, Uddhav Thackeray said that those who remained loyal after the Shiv Sena party split in 2022 will now stay in the party. His statement came amid rumours that at least two MPs may leave him. He said, “Those who supported me will stay. We will move forward with all those who stayed with us and struggled… but if some people want to come with us, we will see…”
