On the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, Udhampur-Banihal is closed for vehicular movement at Cafeteria Mor, Marog, Panthiyal due to rockfalls and landslides. Around 300 trucks are stranded in Banihal. About two and a half thousand vehicles are stranded on the highway.
Kashmir University has postponed the examinations to be held on Wednesday. Electricity is out in 65 per cent areas of Kashmir. Visibility at the airport was less than 400 meters due to incessant snowfall in Srinagar. Train services between Baramulla – Banihal were canceled due to snow accumulation on railway tracks.
Will inform about postponed examinations later
Kashmir University’s examination controller Dr. Majid Zaman said that in view of the bad weather, all UG/PG/professional examinations of the university to be held on Wednesday have been postponed. The new dates for the postponed examinations will be informed later.
Weather will not deteriorate this month
The Meteorological Department has advised people to step out of the house only when necessary till the snow is removed from the roads. However, it is expected that the weather will start improving from Wednesday evening. The department said that there is no chance of much rain or snowfall till the end of February.
Power load reduced to 400 MW
Due to snowfall, 65 per cent of the power supply in the valley has been snapped. The load has reduced to 400 MW. Chief Engineer Kashmir Vidyut Vikas Nigam Limited (KPDCL) Distribution, Ejaz Ahmed said that 85 per cent power supply had been ensured in all district headquarters till evening.
