Kolkata. The incidents of rape and violence in Mamta Banerjee’s West Bengal are not stopping. The latest news is of another gang rape. This incident has also happened in Birbhum district. Police have arrested 4 accused in connection with the gang rape incident in Shantiniketan area. According to the police, the victim of the incident is a tribal girl. The incident happened on April 14. That day the victim had gone to a fair with her friend. This fair was held in Adityapur, Birbhum itself. While returning, the girl and her friend were surrounded by the accused. The victim’s friend was thrashed fiercely and then dragged the girl to the bank of a river and gang-raped.
According to the police, the victim has been admitted to the Bolpur sub-divisional hospital. After interrogating the girl, the police got the sketches of the accused prepared and then arrested them. Earlier on April 4, at Hanshkhali in Nadia district, a class 9 student was allegedly gangraped by the son of a local Trinamool leader and his friends at a birthday party. The girl died a day later. The CBI is investigating the incident on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
Mamta, who was angry after the gangrape incident in Nadia district, had put all the blame on the police officers in the past. In a video conferencing, Mamta had said that if the police had come to know about the incident and had information about the accused in advance, then the incident of Hashankhali gangrape would not have happened. Earlier, Mamta had raised questions on that incident itself. Mamta had said that there was already a relationship between the accused and the girl and the government cannot stop such relations.
