New Delhi. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) controversy seems to be taking a new turn. The Sports Ministry of the Central Government has become active in this matter. Amidst the controversy, the Sports Ministry suspended WFI Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar. The national competition to be held in UP has also been canceled for the time being. An inquiry committee of 7 members has already been formed in this matter. A report has been sought from this committee in 4 weeks. Till then the functioning of WFI chief and MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has already been banned.
The Sports Ministry has taken a serious step to suspend WFI Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar on charges of indiscipline. Vinod Tomar openly supported Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Tomar had taken his side by issuing a formal statement. He had said that most of the people of WFI are with Brij Bhushan. Tomar had also said that personally he does not find the allegations of the players correct. Vinod Tomar had also said that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is still the President of WFI and he himself will come in front of the media and talk on this issue.
Let us inform that 30 wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia staged a sit-in for two days from last Wednesday to remove Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Wrestlers had made several allegations against Brij Bhushan including sexual harassment of female wrestlers. Wrestlers also had several rounds of talks with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. After which it was decided to stop Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh from working till the report came after forming the inquiry committee. Now, by suspending Vinod Tomar, the Sports Ministry has shown that it is taking the allegations of wrestlers seriously in this matter.
