The Labour Ministry said in a statement that Section 5 of the Equal Remuneration Act 1976 clearly states that there should be no discrimination while recruiting male and female workers. It said that since the state government is the appropriate authority for the enforcement and administration of the provisions of this Act, a report has been sought from it. Also, it said that the office of the Regional Chief Labour Commissioner has also been directed to submit the report to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.

Foxconn India is the Indian subsidiary of Taiwanese electronics company Foxconn. It is among the world’s largest electronics contract manufacturing companies. Foxconn India is a major supplier for Apple products including the iPhone, iPad, and other electronic devices. Foxconn has several factories in India, including plants located in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
