Jammu. Security forces have not achieved any success in the terrorist attack on the Air Force convoy in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, the massive search operation in wide areas of the district continued for the third day on Monday. Posters of two accused involved in this attack have been found in Surankote and its surrounding areas, in which a reward of Rs 20 lakh was announced for the information.
The police and army have denied putting up the posters, but officials familiar with the matter said an ‘enthusiastic’ unit of the security forces had initially decided to put up the posters but later removed them after rebuke from their superiors. Gave.
More than twenty people have been detained for questioning in connection with the attack. Security forces are gathering leads to kill the terrorists who fled into the nearby dense forests after the ambush near Shahsitar in Surankote area on Saturday evening. Five Air Force personnel were injured in the attack and one of them later died in a military hospital.
Officials said that a massive joint search operation by the army and police is going on for the third day in many areas including Shahsitar, Gursai, Sanai, Lasana and Shindara Top, but no trace of the terrorists has been found so far. He said that security agencies are collecting clues which will ultimately help in killing the terrorists. Officials said that after the holiday on Sunday, all the schools in the area opened regularly on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, security forces also launched a cordon and search operation in Kaithu village in Dalhori area of adjacent Rajouri district following information about the presence of three suspected terrorists. Several check posts have been set up on main roads and vehicle checking has been intensified in both Poonch and Rajouri districts. This area is part of Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat where voting is to be held on May 25.
In the last two years, major terrorist attacks have taken place in Poonch and Rajouri, indicating the resurgence of terrorist activities in the region. Earlier this area was free from terrorism and the situation was peaceful between 2003 and 2021.
