The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently changed the chief minister in Tripura as well. In place of Biplab Kumar Dev, the command of the state has been given to Manik Saha. Now there is a lot of speculation about why this change was made, but the political situation of the last 6 years is indicating a different formula. Statistics show that wherever the party changed its CMs in these years, it has got great success in the elections.
According to the report of Times of India, in the last 6 years, BJP changed 6 CMs in 4 states before the assembly elections. In these, the party won in Gujarat and Uttarakhand. Whereas, two states are going to go through the election phase in the coming time. On the contrary, in the 6 states where the BJP did not change the CM in the last 5 years, the party has failed to get a majority.
Where did not change CM
Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Haryana are among the states where BJP did not change CMs. The special thing is that the party failed to get majority in all these states. In the year 2017, BJP contested the elections with Vasundhara Raje as CM and as a result the party lost to the Congress.
Raman Singh was the CM during the 2017 elections in Chhattisgarh. Here too the party had to face defeat at the hands of the Congress. Raghubar Das was the CM at the time of elections in Jharkhand in 2019. Here Jharkhand Mukti Morcha pushed the BJP to the second number with a great performance. JMM and Congress together formed the government in the state.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan was the Chief Minister in the 2017 elections in Madhya Pradesh. During that time Congress won the election and Kamal Nath formed the government with the help of Bahujan Samaj Party and independents. However, after Jyotiraditya Scindia’s change of party, the Congress government fell and the BJP came back to power.
In the Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP landed as the CM with the face of Devendra Fadnavis. The result was that the Shiv Sena, the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress formed a post-poll alliance and formed the government. Uddhav Thackeray became the CM of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state.
In the 2019 elections of Haryana, the BJP, which came with Manohar Lal Khattar as the CM, became the single largest party, but failed to get a majority. However, after the election, the BJP formed the government in alliance with the Jannayak Janata Party by Dushyant Chautala.
BJP changed CM here
In Gujarat, the party replaced Anandiben Patel by replacing Anandiben Patel with Vijay Rupani and won the election. At the same time, the party has again replaced Rupani and made Bhupendra Patel the CM of the state. Elections are likely to be held in the state by the end of this year.
In Uttarakhand, BJP changed chief minister twice last year. Earlier in 2021, Trivendra Singh Rawat was brought in place of Tirath Singh Rawat. At the same time, Pushkar Singh Dhami was given a chance in his place in July 2021.
The special thing is that assembly elections are to be held in Karnataka in 2021. Here the party replaced BS Yediyurappa and made Basavaraj Bommai the CM in July 2021.
