Sticky Cholesterol Effects on Heart: You must have often heard that one has high cholesterol. Whenever there is talk of high cholesterol, it means increase in the amount of some of the many types of cholesterol in the blood, called villain cholesterol. This cholesterol is LDL i.e. low density lipoprotein. This is the ruthless cholesterol that starts sticking to the walls of the blood arteries due to which the blood flow reduces and the heart is not able to pump the blood with enough force to reach all the parts of the body. If the blood does not reach every part of the body properly then less oxygen will reach there and less nutrients will also reach there. In this situation, the risk of fatal diseases like heart attack and stroke may increase. So, we have to understand why this ruthless cholesterol gets stuck in the arteries.
What is bad cholesterol?
In a report of Cleveland Clinic, cardiologist Dr. Ashish Saraju says that cholesterol is a group of fat which includes many types of cholesterol. Healthy form of cholesterol is very important for us because it contributes to many important functions of the body. If the amount of HDL is correct then it also reduces HDL. Therefore HDL is also called good cholesterol. But some cholesterol is very dangerous for us. Among these, LDL cholesterol is prominent. It is also called bad cholesterol. The molecules of bad cholesterol contain a sticky substance like super glue. Due to this it starts sticking to the walls of the arteries. Therefore it is also called sticky cholesterol.
How does it harm the heart?
When blood reaches every part of the body through the tubes, it also carries cholesterol with it. Good cholesterol passes through it easily but the molecules of LDL remain stuck to the super glue due to which when the blood moves towards the arteries, it gets stuck to the walls of the arteries. When its quantity increases, it creates obstacles for the blood to pass further. By sticking it becomes a plaque. The pain in the heart starts from here. When the plaque increases over time, the arteries become hard and their passageways become very narrow due to which it becomes difficult for the blood to pass through. In such a situation, a heart attack may occur suddenly one day. This may cause angina. There may even be difficulty in breathing. Due to this, the blood supply to the brain also starts decreasing and due to this, stroke can also occur. Excessive plaque formation can cause chest pain while walking, sitting or getting up.
How to recognize that you have high cholesterol
Cardiologist Dr. Ashish Saraju says that usually when the plaque is less then no symptoms are visible in the body. But if you have high blood pressure, then increase in cholesterol can be more dangerous in this situation. It is called silent killer. Therefore you always need to be alert. For this, there is a need to get lipid profile test done from time to time.
How to prevent high cholesterol
The best way to avoid any disease is to take a healthy diet and do regular physical activity. Fiber rich food does not allow cholesterol to increase. It is also important to control weight. Along with this, distance from cigarettes, alcohol and stress free life is mandatory. Chronic diseases such as diabetes or kidney disease can also increase cholesterol. Eat green leafy vegetables, whole grains, fresh fruits daily and do brisk exercise.
