Why is covaxine safe: A few days ago, panic spread among people after the side effects of the Covishield vaccine for Corona came to light. AstraZeneca, the company that made the Covishield vaccine itself, accepted the side effects and decided to withdraw its vaccine from the worldwide market and during that time, those who got the Covaxin were considering themselves lucky. But suddenly the research of Banaras Hindu University increased the heartbeat of those who got the Covaxin. However, according to health experts, Covaxin is a safe vaccine. The proof of this is not only this vaccine but also other vaccines being administered in India for decades.
Why is Covaxin a safe vaccine? Why do those who have taken Covaxin not need to panic? Let us know the answers to these questions from Dr. Mahesh Chandra Mishra, former Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and Professor Suneet K Singh, a well-known virologist and Director of Dr. Ambedkar Center for Biomedical Research, New Delhi.

Dr. MC Mishra says that both Covaxin and Covishield have been effective against corona, yet there is a difference in the technology of their working and the technology used to make them. The technology with which Covishield is made is a new term, while the technology with which Covaxin is made is already being used in India in the national vaccination program and its tremendous benefits are being seen. Their side effects have also not been seen to be such that there is any need to panic.
Dr. Suneet Singh says that the inactivated or dead pathogen used to make Covaxin is the same as the one used to make many vaccines in India’s vaccination program. No serious side effects have been seen in all these vaccines. One thing to understand is that when a dead pathogen is delivered to the body after several clinical processes, it does not replicate. Along with this, its antigens start producing antibodies in the body and a strong protective wall is formed against the severity of the disease.
Apart from this, if we talk about side effects, the side effects of any vaccine depend not only on the vaccine but on multiple factors. For example, if a person is comorbid, how many times has someone been infected with SARS CoV 2 after taking the vaccine, then the effect of the vaccine will be different in them. In such a situation, just saying that this has happened due to the vaccine is also not correct because the life expectancy here has increased due to the vaccines being used in India’s vaccination.
Like Covaxin, these are the vaccines available in India
These vaccines are made from completely inactivated or killed viruses. In this, the dead virus causing infection is delivered to the body through the vaccine after several chemical and thermal processes and then antibodies are formed in the body against that disease. There are many such vaccines in India.. such as
. Typhoid Vaccine
. Influenza Vaccine
. SAK Polio Vaccine
. Hepatitis A Vaccine.
Dr. Sunit says that apart from this, there are some vaccines in which the disease causing bacteria are weakened by genetic manipulation. There are many such vaccines in India, out of which the oral polio vaccine is very effective. It has contributed a lot in eradicating polio from India. Apart from this, MRV vaccine for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella, rotavirus vaccine etc. are also such vaccines.
