Hajipur: Hajipur parliamentary constituency of Bihar, famous for its bananas, is a part of Vaishali district which teaches the lesson of democracy to the world. This area at the confluence of Ganga and Gandak rivers has been considered an area under the influence of socialists since the beginning. For this reason, elections here have been fought on many issues. In this election, not only is the entire country keeping an eye on this parliamentary constituency, but it is being said that the result of this constituency will also decide the workplace of late Ram Vilas Paswan and his political legacy.
Main contest between the two alliances
In the current elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA has fielded Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan from here, while the grand alliance of the opposition party has fielded Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Shivchandra Ram. . The main contest in this area is believed to be between the two alliances. Hajipur parliamentary constituency with more than 19.53 lakh voters includes Hajipur, Lalganj, Mahua, Rajapakar, Raghopur and Mehnar assembly constituencies. Hajipur parliamentary constituency was part of Saran cum Champaran parliamentary constituency in 1952. This area came into existence in the year 1957.
Ram Vilas Paswan remained at the Center for 4 decades
From 1957 to 1971, this area was known as Saffron parliamentary constituency. Ram Vilas Paswan’s brother Pashupati Kumar Paras had won from here in the last election. Ram Vilas had registered his name in the Guinness Book by winning from here with record votes. The politics here has revolved around Ram Vilas Paswan for four decades. This time the circumstances seem to have changed since the last election. Unlike the previous elections, in this election his son Chirag Paswan has contested from this workplace of Ram Vilas.
Chirag won after confrontation with uncle
In the 2024 elections, while Paswan is confident of caste-based votes, BJP and JDU cadre votes and the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the RJD candidate is confident of crossing the electoral hurdle with his social equation. The leaders of both the alliances are leaving no stone unturned in attracting the voters. After the death of Ram Vilas, LJP divided into two groups. There was a disagreement between Chirag and his uncle Paras. Both are leading different parties. Both of them claimed this seat, but in the end this seat went to Chirag.
PM Modi held rally in support of Chirag
However, his uncle Paras’s party Rashtriya LJP is also with NDA. Chirag was elected MP from Jamui in the last elections. On the basis of caste, the number of Yadav, Rajput, Bhumihar, Kushwaha and Paswan is high in this area. Voters from extremely backward classes also have the power to influence the election results. On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also remembered Ram Vilas Paswan while addressing an election rally in support of Chirag in Hajipur. He described Ram Vilas Paswan as a true seeker of social justice and said that Ram Vilas ji’s soul will not find peace just by Chirag winning, his soul will find peace only when he gets more votes than Ram Vilas Paswan.
RJD has also put its full emphasis
It is believed that the challenge for both the parties involved in the alliance is to keep their vote bank and cadre votes comfortable till the last moment. However, RJD has put all efforts for RJD candidate Shivchandra Ram. However, while Chirag Paswan has the support of the upper castes as well as the names of Modi and Nitish and the cadre votes of BJP, Shivchandra Ram has confidence in his vote bank. Now, how much the voters trust them will be known only after the election results on June 4. Voting is to be held in Hajipur in the fifth phase on May 20. (IANS)
