Riyadh: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has started his visit to West Asia on Monday. This is his seventh diplomatic mission to the region since the start of the Israel-Hamas war about six months ago, in which he will also visit Israel. The war has been going on since the deadly attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7 last year. More than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed, thousands have been displaced and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is deepening.
Will talks be held on Israel-Hamas ceasefire?
Blinken’s visit comes amid renewed concerns over the conflict situation in West Asia. During this visit, the US Secretary of State can discuss Israel-Hamas ceasefire, humanitarian aid for Gaza, the future of Gaza and normalization of Israel-Saudi Arabia relations. Blinken will visit Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Israel during his visit. Before his visit, US President Joe Biden spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on phone on Sunday.
America made its stand clear
The White House has issued a statement regarding the conversation between Biden and Netanyahu. The statement said Biden has reiterated his “clear stance” amid Israel’s plan to attack the city of Rafah. More than 1 million Palestinians have taken refuge in Rafah and countries around the world have expressed concern about Israel’s invasion plan. America has also opposed the attack on humanitarian grounds. Meanwhile, there have been demonstrations across the world regarding the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. The heat of violence has reached college campuses in America. America’s support for Israel is also being criticized. (AP)
