Defending champions India advanced to the semi-finals of the Women’s Asia Cup with a 9-1 victory over Singapore in the decider of the Women’s Asia Cup hockey tournament being played in Oman today. Earlier, India suffered a 0-2 loss to Asian Games gold medalist Japan in their second match. After this defeat, this match had become very important for India.
In this match, Gurjit Kaur scored a hat-trick from a penalty corner for India as the defending champions also secured their place in the upcoming World Cup by securing a place in the top four. India won their first tournament against Malaysia. However, after losing 0-2 to Japan in their second game, the Indian team showed their color and dominated Singapore with consistent attacks.

Monika and Jyoti scored two goals each for India. Also, Mariana Kujur and Vandana Katariya increased India’s goal number.
For Singapore, Min Lee Toh opened his team’s account in the third quarter by converting a penalty corner with the help of a big deflection. Now India will face South Korea in the semi-final on 26 January. On the other hand, China and Japan will compete in the other semi-finals.
