The 24-year-old para archer had her eyes set on becoming the first female archer world champion at the senior level but the Gurugram lad could not overcome the challenge of the Tokyo Paralympic silver medalist in the final and finished 3-7 (24-24, 23-21, 3-7). 26-28, 24-26, 25-27). India thus ended the campaign with two silver medals at the World Archery Para Championship with its best ever performance. Pooja and her senior teammate of the same name Pooja Khanna were up against rivals from Mongolia for the team bronze but lost 1-5.
The compound mixed pair of Shyam Sundar Swamy and Jyoti Baliyan had earlier opened India’s account by winning a silver medal which was also the country’s first medal at the World Archery Para Championships. Pooja, who qualified as the fourth seed, started her campaign with a 7-1 win over Pooja Khanna. She faced a tough challenge from Shvetlana Barantseva in the quarterfinals but managed to register a 6-4 win.
