Lovlina defeated Youth World Champion Arundhati Choudhary. He had approached the Delhi High Court in December last year opposing Lovlina’s automatic selection for the World Championships.
This will be Lovlina’s first competition after winning the bronze medal in 69kg in Tokyo. 69kg is no longer contested in International Boxing Association (IBA) competitions.
The World Championships was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will now be held from May 6 to 21. In addition to the 12 weight categories for the World Championships, the Asian Games also confirmed selections in three weight categories (57kg, 60kg and 75kg). Manisha has been selected in 57kg, Jasmine in 60kg and experienced Sweety Bura in 75kg.
Zareen’s selection was certain after she became the first Indian woman boxer to win two gold medals at the prestigious Strandja Memorial tournament earlier this month. Neetu (48kg), who won a gold medal in the same tournament, has also made it to the World Championship team.
