Russia attacked Ukraine on Thursday morning. The whole world is shocked by this incident. Many countries in Europe, America and Asia are still considering to react to this action of Russia. Initially some sanctions have been announced regarding Russia, although more strictness is likely to be shown by Britain, America and European Union countries. Meanwhile, media around the world have also expressed their views on the Ukraine crisis in their editorials. While the New York Times said that Russia had launched a brazen attack on a vulnerable neighbour, the British newspaper The Guardian has said that Britain is responsible for the aid Russia is getting in this war.
What did the newspapers around the world say?
1. The New York Times
The American newspaper The New York Times wrote, “There can be no justification for this brazen attack on a vulnerable neighbor. No one has given Vladimir Putin the right to decide the fate of his neighbours. His aggression on Ukraine is serious. There will be consequences and it will be painful for the West. Russia will also have to bear the consequences, whose development can now come to a standstill.”
2. The Guardian
The Guardian said in its editorial, “The way Britain has helped in the money laundering of the Russian rich and that money is being used in the war, it is clear that Britain helped Russia in the war.” We have turned our eyes away from the money coming from Russia through corruption. Rather, we should say that we have used Russian money like the oil that drives the wheels of our politics.”
3. Global Times
Chinese newspaper Global Times said about the Russo-Ukraine war that the decisions taken by Russian President Vladimir Putin have caused a stir in the whole world. But in reality this issue has been dragged on. The Global Times surrounded the US and said that it is constantly trying to limit Russia, due to which Russia understood what its security needs are. The effect of this dissatisfaction is the Ukraine crisis, due to which the situation is getting worse.
4. The Dawn
Pakistan’s newspaper The Dawn has also commented on the Russia-Ukraine sanctions. The newspaper called for the need to be careful on this issue in view of the visit of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to Russia. “PM Imran Khan will have to be very careful, especially at a time when Western countries are blaming the Kremlin for fueling the Ukraine crisis and aggression,” the newspaper wrote. The editorial said, “While Imran has tried to clear the doubts about the timing of his visit, Pakistan’s relations with the West will definitely be affected. Some analysts believe that this is a double-edged sword on which the government will have to fight.” Gotta tread carefully.”
5. CNN
America’s media group CNN has also commented on the Russia-Ukraine war. It said that President Joe Biden does not have a strong political backing amid the dispute between Russia and Ukraine. According to CNN, Biden finds himself in a tight political position. On foreign policy, Biden still grapples with criticism of the hasty withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan. The editor of the channel said that this invasion of Russia will affect America and the whole world. The free world and America will have to pay a price for the attack as well as the challenge to America’s leadership. However, this will not make them go through the same problems that the people of Ukraine are going through.
