World Wildlife Day 2022 Special: Haricharan Yadav, Bhopal. Not only this Madhya Pradesh has become the state with the highest population of tigers and leopards. This result has been achieved by breaking the network of poachers and smugglers spread internationally. For which the State Tiger Strike Force (STSF) has been working continuously for the last 11 years in collaboration with other agencies. So far, 1093 accused have been identified and crimes have been registered in the network of hunters in nine countries and 14 states including China, Nepal, Taiwan and Myanmar. Of these, 75 percent have also been arrested. Two citizens of Taiwan, Myanmar are also included in the arrested smugglers.
There were 526 tigers in Madhya Pradesh in the census of 2018. According to the prevailing estimate of 2022, this number is expected to reach 700. There were 1517 leopards in the state in 2014, whose number is now 3421. In fact, there were 300 tigers in the state in 2006, which was the highest in the country.
The number of leopards, pangolins and tortoises due to the good water system was also good due to the abundant forest area. Which was caught by the smugglers. Since then, the smugglers made the local people a pawn. Lured money and hunted tigers, leopards, pangolins, turtles and other wildlife.
Their organs were bought by smugglers from MP, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Mizoram, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Odisha at nominal rates. From here tiger parts were sent to Nepal, China, Tibet, pangolin parts to China, Myanmar, Tibet, Nepal, turtle parts to China, Myanmar, Thailand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and leopard parts to Nepal.
Bison were once finished, now 140 because of a project
In Madhya Pradesh’s famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, the never-ending bison (wild buffalo) is once again making it buzzing. This success was achieved through an effort named “Introduction of Gaur in Bandhavgarh”. This project which started 12 years ago is at the peak of its success. Initially 49 bison were brought here from Kanha Tiger Reserve, now their number has increased from 140. Too much is over.
they say
Favorable habitat areas are being developed in the state for all wildlife including tigers, leopards, pangolins and turtles in every aspect. Organized gangs of incidents of their hunting and smuggling of organs have also been broken. Due to all these efforts, their population is increasing, which is a good sign for Madhya Pradesh.
