Beijing, May 11 (IANS)| Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has patented a smartphone design with an under-screen flip camera that is capable of serving dual purpose with a primary camera and a selfie camera. The flip technology used in the phone’s camera setup will rotate the camera by 180 degrees and serve as both a selfie cam and a rear-facing camera.
Xiaomi continues to pursue active research and development within the smartphone segment of the tech industry, Gizmochina reported on Tuesday.
The company recently showcased a concept phone with a curved display and an under-display camera. Xiaomi is not the only company working on innovative curved display and under-screen camera technology. As indicated by a new patent granted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the company is making great strides in the development of a rotating under-display camera module.
According to WIPO documents spotted by LetsgoDigital, the patent application was filed in February 2020 for the terminal device, which has an under-display camera.
The report says that Xiaomi may unveil the first such device within the year. The flip camera module is placed on the back of the device, while the triple camera setup houses a rotatable top lens. The patent document also reveals that the front-facing camera is activated internally along with the rotating rear camera. The display has been adjusted to fit with the active camera module and delivers an equally powerful shot. Users await the unveiling of the Xiaomi smartphone, which will feature an under-display rotatable camera setup.
