New Delhi. Jailed Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik was produced in Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday. They have been charged with criminal conspiracy, waging war against the country, other illegal activities and breach of peace in Kashmir.
Security cordoned off the area and media persons were asked to wait outside the court.
Sources said that Judge Rakesh Kumar Sharma, who was to hear the matter, is on leave. The matter will be presided over by a link court headed by Justice Prashant Kumar.
Malik had confessed his crime in this case. On the last date of hearing, he told the court that he was under sections 16 (terrorist act), 17 (raising funds for terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist acts), 20 (member of a terrorist gang or organization) of UAPA. being) and will not contest the charges leveled against him including sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code.
Special Judge Praveen Singh then posted the matter for May 19 to hear arguments regarding quantum of punishment for the offenses levied against Malik, with the maximum punishment being life imprisonment.
There are Kashmiri separatist leaders including Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah, Masarat Alam, former MLA Rashid Engineer, businessman Zahoor Ahmed Shah Watali, Bitta Karate, Aftab Ahmed Shah, Avtar Ahmed Shah, Naeem Khan, Bashir Ahmed Bhat, alias Peer Saifullah and many others, They have also been charged with charges of criminal conspiracy, waging war against the country and other illegal activities.
Notably, the court has acquitted Kamran Yusuf, Javed Ahmed Bhatt and Syed Asiya Firdous Andrabi.
The case pertains to various terror outfits- Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM), Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). They carry out terrorist and separatist activities to spoil the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
