These three women public representatives presented their views in the office of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj in New Delhi. These three women will present their views on the topic ‘Leadership Experience’ on 3 May 2024 at the UNFPA Headquarters. India is a member of the Population and Development Commission. The Modi government has highlighted the role and potential of women elected representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions in accelerating the country’s achievements in gender equality and women empowerment. Neeru Yadav has started a new campaign to promote the environment by giving trees as Kanyadaan on marriage. Neeru has also started the ‘My Tree-My Friend’ campaign. Neeru empowered rural women by making bags from old clothes. Neeru also took the initiative to deliver pension to old and disabled people at their homes every month. Along with this, by starting Panchayat level Sarpanch Pathshala, girls were connected with computer education. A target was also set to reduce the school dropout rate among girls. For these efforts, he was awarded the prestigious Shiksha Shree Award by the Government of Rajasthan.
Connecting girls to hockey
Yadav earned immense respect and popularity for connecting girls to sports, especially hockey, and thus dismantling regressive gender and social norms. His efforts also earned him the nickname of Hockey Sarpanch. He worked towards reducing the use of plastic. Neeru Yadav has a master’s degree in Mathematics and Education and is currently pursuing her PhD.
Supriya Das Dutta is a resident of Tripura and is the District Panchayat President.
