Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India were merged with PNB last year.
An important news has come out for bank customers. The check books of 3 public sector banks of the country are going to be worthless. In such a situation, if you also have an account in these banks, then it will be in your interest to change the check book in time. These are the banks which have recently merged with other banks. Banking system will reject old checks due to change in account number, IFSC and MICR code due to merger of banks with effect from October 1, 2021. All checkbooks of these 3 big banks will become invalid from October 1. Therefore, customers of all these banks are advised to immediately visit their branch and apply for a new chequebook. Checkbook and MICR code of Allahabad Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) and United Bank of India are going to be invalid from 1st October.
Punjab National Bank (PNB) has said that the old checkbook of e-OBC and e-UNI will not work from October 1. Customers have been told that from October 1, the old checkbook will become useless. The new checkbook will come with updated IFSC. Apart from this, the IFSC and MICR code of Punjab National Bank will also change. PNB said that the old check book will have to be changed before October 1 and for this one will have to visit the bank branch. You have to deposit the old check book and get a new check book. Customers have been told that after the merger of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India with PNB, it has become necessary to replace their old check book with the new PNB check book. The IFSC and MICR code of PNB will be written on the new check book. Customers can call toll free number 18001802222 to get detailed information regarding this.
Punjab National Bank had earlier fixed June 30 as the date for replacement of old check book with new one. Earlier the date of April 1 was fixed. PNB said that the old checkbook of Oriental Bank and UBI will not be considered valid after April 1, 2021, hence it will have to be replaced with a new check book soon. Later the bank extended the date to October 1. In its new directive, PNB will have to replace the old checkbook before fixing the date of October 1. If this is not the case then the transaction cannot be done from the old check book.
Last year on April 1, 2020, Oriental Bank and United Bank of India were merged with PNB. Now all the work of UBI and OBC is being done under PNB. Accordingly, IFSC Code and MICR are also changing. The codes of both the banks will now run with the codes of PNB. PNB is the second largest bank in the public sector after State Bank of India.
