People infected with the Omicron variant of the corona virus have shown significantly higher immunity than patients infected with other variants such as Delta. Even if they haven’t been vaccinated. These findings have come to the fore in a study conducted by scientists from the National Institute of Virology (NIV).
The research states, based on the high level of antibody production in people infected with Omicron, it can be assumed that they will not be infected with Delta or any other variants.
The research was conducted in January this year. It has now been published in the latest issue of the Journal of Infection (Medical Journal). This research has been done by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
39 people involved
39 people were included in the research. These were people who had returned from the United Arab Emirates, Africa, West Asia, America and Britain. Six of these people were not vaccinated. All were infected with Omicron variants.
divided into three categories
The scientists divided the people involved in the research into three categories. The first category included 25 people who had received both the vaccines from Covishield. The second included eight people who had received the Pfizer vaccine and the third included six people without the vaccine.
Antibody analysis
The researchers analyzed IgG and neutralizing antibodies against B.1, alpha, beta, delta and Omicron variants in sera (aqueous blood) from individuals infected with Omicron. They were kept in isolation and all were infected without symptoms.
Caution needed-
The researcher emphasized that despite the results of the study, people should not underestimate the protection against corona. For now, you need to be careful.
Dr. Pragya Yadav, Scientist, NIV says that this suggests that people who have been vaccinated and become infected with Omicron will not become seriously ill. Other people who have not been vaccinated and become infected with Omicron have been shown to have higher immunity. In such a situation, there will be no effect in those patients if infected with other variants like Delta.
