The friendship between animals and humans is centuries old. Especially dogs and humans have lived with each other for many centuries. An example of their friendship is also given. Now medical science has also accepted that the friendship of these two is beneficial for health along with improving behavior. A recent study has found that just ten minutes of ‘dog therapy’ can make people’s anxiety and pain disappear in minutes. The study was published in the journal Plos One.
Researchers from Saskatoon College in Canada studied nearly 200 hospitalized patients. All these patients were admitted to the emergency ward of the Royal University Hospital. Researchers reported that a breed of dog, Murphy (specially trained), was put in contact with hospitalized patients. In medical science, it is named ‘dog therapy’.
Study done like this-
Researchers said that the patients involved in the study were divided into two parts. One group included people suffering from chronic pain.
At the same time, anxiety patients were included in the second group. After this, patients of both groups were given ‘dog therapy’ for ten minutes in turn.
It was found that in people who had pain for a long time, after ‘dog therapy’, about 43 percent of people’s pain disappeared. At the same time, about 48 percent of the patients who were worried got benefit from it.
Seeing the condition of the patients, the therapy was given-
Researchers told that seeing the condition of the patients, they were given this therapy. He told that if a patient spends time with Murphy, then a hormone called oxytocy is operated in the patient’s brain, which helps in reducing the patient’s anxiety. Along with this, it also reduces the pain of the patient.
Will prove to be a boon for medical science-
The lead author of the study, Dr. Colin Dale, says that this research will prove to be a boon for medical science in the coming times. He said that this therapy can prove to be especially comfortable for people who stay in the hospital for a long time. He said that mental health problems are seen in those above the age of fifty, especially for such patients, they can be helpful.
