The responsibility of protecting the environment rests on the shoulders of every individual. The way the environment is being tampered with in front of material pleasures. Its serious consequences can be seen in the future. We have been seeing signs of this for the last few years. In addition to the record-breaking scorching heat in the summer, floods in the desert during the rainy days, severe drought in the plains, and severe crises can be seen in the mountainous areas as well. The flood in Assam in the year 2022 is also a living example of this.
If we talk about India only, in the last few years, avalanches, extensive damage due to frequent storms, floods, forest fires are all the results of climate change. Due to which the lives of countless people were lost. Many species have been endangered due to forest fires. Despite this, neither the government is worried nor the people of the country are concerned about it.
India 5th hottest country after 1901
You will be surprised to know that according to a report released by Copernicus Climate Change Service (European Union program), the year 2021 was the fifth warmest year in India after 1901. It shows how much the temperature is increasing in India. Just a few days ago, in May 2022, in some areas of the capital Delhi, the temperature reached 49 degree Celsius, due to which an orange alert was issued.
India got 10th place
The Climate Change Performance Index, released in November 2021, indicates that no country has taken adequate steps to prevent the dangerous effects of climate change even after the Paris Agreement is in force. No country got the first place in this index, the reason behind this is also that no country has taken concrete steps towards it. In this, India has been ranked 10th.
crisis in africa
More recently, people in the Horn of Africa (Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea) are facing severe drought conditions. The Horn of Africa is experiencing its worst drought in 40 years and the driest conditions recorded since 1981. Something is happening in the continent of Africa as well, it is just an effect of climate change. In the future, its effects can be so widespread and destructive that it can threaten the existence of not only humans but also other organisms on Earth. This will include rise in sea level, avalanches, increase in earth temperature, forest fires, desertification, lack of arable land, etc.
ipcc report worrying
According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report, the increase in riverine, coastal and urban flooding from climate change will lead to massive changes in infrastructure, livelihoods and habitats. The report said that if the temperature rises by 1.5 degrees Celsius, then 14 percent of the species will be threatened with extinction. On the other hand, if it increases by 39 percent at 3 °C or 4 °C, then this risk will increase to 29 percent and 39 percent.
Climate crisis in India is nothing less
Where on one hand people are finding it difficult to get pure air and pure water in India. On the other hand, polluted air and dirty water is becoming a very serious threat to the health of the people of India. The government has failed to clean the rivers even after many election announcements and promises. Along with this, the government has not taken any concrete steps in purifying the poisonous air and preventing it from becoming poisonous. It is not mine but the air quality report says.
Let us inform that according to the World Air Quality Report 2021, Delhi is the most polluted capital of the world for the fourth consecutive year. People in Delhi and adjoining states are forced to breathe poisonous air. According to the same report, out of the 15 most polluted cities in Central and South Asia, 11 are from India alone.
These things are necessary to save the environment
Talking to AnyTV.com, Ram Babu Tiwari, Research Scholar, Govind Vallabh Pant Institute of Social Sciences, says that in order to save the environment, at present we have to move towards natural farming, boycotting pesticides. Along with this, excessive mining in the mountains and rivers will have to be stopped. At the same time, the ponds that are becoming extinct will have to be identified and demarcated and made them alive.
Ram Babu says that we have to return to the cultivation of coarse cereals, because through this farming water wastage can be stopped and methane gas emissions can be reduced. Because this gas is the biggest contributor behind climate change.
