New Delhi. The world’s largest search engine, Google, from time to time, instead of its logo, honors a great personality by making a doodle. Continuing this practice, today’s doodle of Google is dedicated to ‘Najiha Salim’. Born in Turkey, Naziha Salim is counted among the well-known professors, painters and influential artists in the contemporary art scene. After several years abroad, she returned to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, where she painted the lives of rural women and farmers in Iraq with her bold brush strokes and vibrant colors. The picture shown in the Google Doodle is an artwork by Najiha Salim. Born into a family of Iraqi artists from Turkey, Najiha’s father was a painter by profession and her mother was a skilled embroidery artist. His entire family had mastered various fields of art. Apart from his parents, his three brothers also worked in the field of art. Iraq’s most influential sculptor, Jawad, is one of Najiha’s three artist brothers.
Najiha Salim completed her painting studies at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad and earned her bachelor’s degree. His passion for art stems from the fact that he also earned a scholarship to continue his further studies at the cole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Najiha Salim gained proficiency in fresco and mural painting while in Paris. After graduating, she completely immersed herself in art and culture. Continuing his art journey, he spent many years abroad and later returned to Baghdad and described the situation there through his paintings. Najiha Salim is remembered as Iraq’s most famous artist. On 15 February 2008, this great artist said goodbye to the world.
